The Hacienda operates a unique 300 cow Dairy where everything is recycled and nothing goes to waste, manure produces the electricity and bio-fertilizer helps grow the forage. Compost provides high quality organic fertilizer with the help of earthworms to grow organic black pepper.

Accommodations Hacienda Pozo Azul offers two unique lodging alternatives to make your trip a complete adventure: Cuculmeca tent camp and Magsasay Lodge.

Cuculmeca Tent Camp Cuculmeca is a unique concept in lodging. Comfortable tents within a forest location, mounted on decks and covered with a protective canvas, tents are provided with 4 individual beds, and equipped with electric light and running water.

The 25 tents are connected by paths with the hot showers and restrooms; and the large multi-purpose decks, where you can relax on rocking chairs or hammocks, or hold group activities.

Ideal for the nature lovers, birders and adventurous visitors, Cuculmeca offers a true tropical forest experience. Perfect, also, for students or corporate groups, looking for an exceptionally beautiful; quiet, isolated location where to hold meetings, workshops, parties or enhancing team dynamics.

Set in a forested hill 200 yards from the beautiful Sarapiquí River, overlooking a green pasture used for sport activities, Cuculmeca is only 1.500 yards from the reception complex of Hacienda Pozo Azul Adventures, were you can choose from a large variety of activities and adventures or simply enjoy a great meal.

While at the camp you can used the 2 mile hiking trails through the forest and riverside, or even walk back to the restaurant and adventure center.

Magsasay Lodge Magsasay Jungle lodge is Hacienda Pozo Azul 30 year old house located on the "Zona Protectora La Selva" at the entrance to the Braulio Carrillo National Park, and bordering the La Selva Biological Station. At only 7 miles on a 4x4 from the home base; it faces an impressive view of the Park Braulio Carrillo through the Peje River which serves as a border of the Park.

For an authentic Eco Experience in Costa Rica with the Braulio Carrillo National Park at your door steps, the 35 year old solid hardwood home was remodeled into 10 comfortable rooms, a large deck putting you practically into the jungle, lighted by solar power. The accent is on excellent food and service in a jungle environment, while you will learn to appreciate the spectacular complexity of the rain forest biodiversity, and the need to preserve it.

The10 rooms have a total capacity of up to 36 guests in triple or quadruple occupancy. Lodge is provided with solar power for lightning and basic appliances as well as hot water showers. Bathrooms are just across the hall.

Magsasay Lodge is ideal for those wanting to relax in a super natural environment, away from any disturbances, while admiring the extraordinary setting and the biodiversity that surrounds it.

It is an ideal place for bird, and butterfly watchers, through the many miles of trails and paths on the 900 acres. The enormous diversity of fauna in Sarapiquí is well known and documented: La Selva Biological Station, just next door has reported a total of 410 species of birds (Blake et al. 1990), and 204 species of butterflies (DeVries 1994).
