It is situated within a 300 acre dairy farm of which 100 acres are cloud forest with very particular vegetation: orchids, epiphytes, and bromiliads hanging on primary forest trees. The lodge itself was built by an English family, as the principal house for the surrounding diary farm, El Cortijo, both of which they still own. The Lodge has stone walls, chimney places, Costarrican art and extensive gardens. The impressive views from the house include not only the volcano, but also the western area of the spectacular Braulio Carillo National Park as well as the Caribbean plains. Poás Volcano Lodge is just a few meters from the nearest protected subtropical rain forest area.

The lodge offers 9 comfortable and charming bedrooms, including a luxurious master suite with a sunken stone bathtub. The rooms have a luxury rustic flavor with stone walls, wood paneling, soft lighting and sumptuous beds. They each have private access to the garden which affords an impressive view to the volcano and most are within a few meters of the rainforest surrounding the lodge.

Some of the activities you can do while you are at the Poás Volcano Lodge and that you won’t regret are: guided tours in Poás Volcano National Park, riding tours with exclusive access to local farms and the surrounding countryside, visit to Doka Estate and La Casita del Café with an organized tour around the coffee plantations, guided walks through La Legua, part of the Braulio Carrillo National Park, and white water rafting on the Sarapiquí River. Some of the outdoor attractions are: rent a bike, horseback riding, birdwatching, agro tourism, see the farm’s dairy in action, trails through woods and fields in the farm.
